Nigerian artist Damilola Okhoya's work is propelled by his Physics background. Creating moulds and casts into fibreglass as well as armatures to create large intricate metal sculptures, Okhoya seeks to go to the very core of a mechanism to understand its function.
Okhoya's fascinations with warped expressions, vivid unexpected colour combinations and close attention to modernity is highlighted in his new Haute Couture series which is a departure from his previous works. Amalgamating Yoruba culture and some of the world's elite fashion brands, The Haute Couture series is a fresh take on western haute couture with a deeply African twist.
Interpreting concepts and illustrations in details from sketches, memory and imagination, Okhoya's utility of mediums ranging from but not limited to oil, acrylic, charcoal, sculpture and 3D rendering create imaginative works that cleverly frees themselves from the rules of geometry.
