Karesse Irina Mbourou | Body Is Attraction

Gabonese photographer Karesse Irina Mbourou paints the Parisian skyline with shades of pink as black bodies curl and entwine.

Inspired by the continent of Africa, culture and the black skin colour, the Libreville-educated photographer speaks proudly about being African, “It’s the real definition of beauty. Life is creative. The plurality of black skin tones is the symbol of creativity.”

With shades and colour playing an important role in her work, the Gabonese photographer’s series focuses on women, particularly to the shape of the woman’s body. ‘BODY IS ATTRACTION’ captures the representation of the woman’s body within the couple.

“Self-esteem is a subject that is important to me because I always try to understand the meaning, that which is my own and learn through experiences, who I am. The physics, the ‘beauty’, the colour of skin …

Through my photographs I address these topics that have always been discussed even more today with social networks and the appearance that counts now more than reality.”
